Wilderness Camp 2008 - Leaders

The Rev. Catie Greene

  • Faith Formation Events Coordinator and Camp Director, Episcopal Diocese of Colorado
  • Catie is an avid outdoor enthusiast who moved from the San Francisco area to Colorado so she could be closer to the mountains and wilderness she loves. When she was a senior in high school she participated in a wilderness backpacking trip with her church youth group near Yosemite National Park. The experience reconfirmed her love of God, the earth as God’s creation, and Jesus as God’s gift of a constant companion on her journey. Catie has climbed mountains in Mexico, El Salvador, New Zealand, South Africa, and in various parts of the United States, though she has yet to summit a fourteener. She believes, however, that she will reach this goal this summer! She looks forward to Wilderness Camp and experiencing the glory of God in Colorado with young people on the journey.
  • Catie has been doing youth ministry for 12 years and looks forward to many years more. She enjoys spending outdoors by herself and also with her family and all their dogs. Her favorite body of water is a river and can rarely pass one by without dipping something in it, whether a toe or a fly line.

The Rev. Mary Kate Schroeder

  • The Rev. Mary Kate Schroeder, Rector, St. Aidan’s, Boulder.
  • Mary Kate started backpacking in the Wind River Wilderness (Wyoming) at the age of 14, led 9-day trips for the Audubon Society for two summers in high school, and has taken several youth groups backpacking and camping in the past 12 years. She thoroughly enjoys teaching young people the independence and interdependence of being in the wilderness for several days. She also enjoys jumping into lakes, the colder the better. Her first experience of the glorious magnanimity of God’s creation was in the wilderness, and still delights in feeling so small in vast spaces, and at the same time, powerful to live and survive in those places.
  • When she's not backpacking, she enjoys parochial ministry and serving God in a church right next to the campus of CU Boulder. She runs and swims and has a dog who keeps her company when doing short hikes around Boulder.

Rob Sibley

  • Volunteer Youth Leader, St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, Boulder
  • The outdoors have been a part of Rob's life since he went on his first Boy Scout camping trip at the age of 6 months. He has backpacked along much of the John Muir Trail, and parts of the Pacific Crest trail. Since moving to Colorado 5 years ago he has learned to love the Front Range and the Rockies as an endurance trail runner. His has recently done some exotic travel/hiking/camping adventures with his 14 year old son Michael, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, camping on the Serengeti during the great migration, and camping with the Giant Tortoises in the Galapagos Islands. He truly loves to be a guide as youth discover their capabilities, and discover the beauty and wonders of God's creation.
  • When not out running on the incredible Colorado Trails, or traveling to see more of the wonders of nature, he works for Sun Microsystems. He is also co-facilitator for the Just Faith class at St. Mary Magdalene church.
