A New Creation Story: God in an Emerging Universe, March 13, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm, St. Paul's, Lakewood.
Since the time of Einstein scientists have discovered an entirely new way of understanding the Universe, Earth, and Life. In parallel, theologians and spiritual leaders are sharing new visions of God in an emerging universe. This day of retreat will engage us in this new creation story, help us re-awaken to Earth as partner rather than servant to us, identify where we are in our journeys as human beings, and gather us into spiritual and prayer experiences that unfold us with/in God. The Rev. Dr. Barbara A. Dumke serves as Vicar of Church of the Good Shepherd in Colorado Springs. She has served in four dioceses, received her doctorate in creation theology, holds three Master's degrees and a certificate in spiritual direction. She has written several articles and chapters in books and is preparing her dissertation, Coming Home---to Earth, for publication. She has led retreat and workshops for churches and Diocesan conventions and taught classes in seminaries and universities. The fee for the day is $25, and it includes Continental Breakfast & Lunch. Contemplation and Interfaith Relations – Exploring the Eastern Christian Contemplative Tradition as a Foundation for Interfaith Living, March 16, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, St. John’s Cathedral, Denver.
This evening is offered by the Abrahamic Initiative and the Institute for Contemplative Living. Join us as we explore new ways to understand who God is through a contemplative tradition that embraces diversity of thought and practice. From the Christian perspective, Eastern Orthodox contemplative theology in particular values the great diversity of ways of living as instruments for the knowledge and experience of God. According to Eastern Christian theologians, everything in creation, including religious difference, offers new avenues for understanding a God who, after all, confounds our human ways of thinking. This same perspective, we believe, may be found among Jewish and Muslim contemplatives, all of whom historically lived and prayed in the same area of the world. Free Attendance – All are Welcome. For more information, click here, or visit the Institute for Contemplative Living’s website: http://www.institute-contemplativeliving.org/id46.html
