St. Laurence, Conifer Observes Holy Week with New Stations of the Cross
Holy Week observances as St. Laurence in Conifer will have a new look this year, with newly installed Stations of the Cross in the sanctuary. The works of art are painted in the Spanish Colonial “retablo” style in hand-tooled metal frames. The congregation will be using these new treasures for the first time at services on Good Friday, April 10, to commemorate Christ’s passion. The church has chosen to include a fifteenth station, “Resurrection,” in its Stations of the Cross. Interestingly, the artist, Martha Johnson, chose to build functioning doors on the frame of this station, which are closed during Lent and dramatically opened on Easter morning.
